Hello Baduja

ยท 1 min read

Every programmer’s first program says hello to the world. The first post on this blog says hello to something a little closer to home:

fmt.Println("hello, Baduja")

My daughter’s name is Victoria. At two years old, though, it doesn’t quite come out that way. When she says her own name, the sounds rearrange themselves and land somewhere soft and certain: Baduja. She says it with complete conviction, as if the rest of us have been getting it wrong all along.

I know it won’t last. One day soon she’ll say “Victoria” perfectly, and Baduja will slip away quietly, the way so many little things from these early years do, usually before you notice they’ve gone. I wanted somewhere to hold on to it.

So this blog is called Baduja. It’s a home for my thoughts, for the small slice-of-life moments that are easy to let pass by, and now and then for something from my working life: a lesson learned, or an idea worth writing down. Mostly, it’s a reminder to pay attention while things are still small.
